Real Life - Pat's Personals
(excerpt)
| IT WAS HARD TO TELL WHO WAS HAVING the best time at the Guiding Light/Animal Haven Adoptathon: the actors, the fans, or the dogs. All converged at Biscuits & Bath Doggy Village, the upscale day-and overnight-care center/grooming facility/spa (including a lap pool for doggy paddlers) on Manhattan's East Side, across the street from the GL studio. The easy access, plus the fact that the evening was hosted by GL's own Grant Aleksander (Phillip) and his wife, attorney Sherry Ramsey, must be why it drew almost the entire cast. Grant suggested that another big lure was the pre-event cocktails he offered in his dressing room. |
| But even before Grant brought over the first wave of cast mates, David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund) and his wife, Nicolette, had arrived on the scene with their 1 year-old son, Ian, and their dogs, Larry and Benny. Larry, the Lhasa they adopted from Animal Haven two years ago, has become a mascot and symbol of the link between the shelter and the soap community, and a TV crew wanted to interview David about him. Meanwhile, Nikki and I took Ian and Benny, the shih tzu, also a rescued dog, on a stroll to the supermarket to pick up some stuff for the party. Two things happened during this mission that discouraged Nikki from wanting to move back to New York, even though she's been missing it terribly since they relocated to the New Jersey hinterlands. 1. Benny pooped in the street, and for the first time ever she had to pick it up. "Blecch!" she groaned. "In the country we just throw dirt over it." 2. While she was waiting for me beneath some scaffolding outside the market, huge nails dropped off into the baby's stroller, which David discovered on our return. "What are these?" he asked, looking horrified. |
