At a recent soap event, Robin Platzer, who shoots many of the photos for this column, gestured toward a conversing David Andrew Macdonald (Jordan/David, Another World) and Paul Anthony Stewart (Danny, Guiding Light). "You know," she said, "He--indicating David--"married him"--Paul--on "Loving."
Actually, I told her, I didn't know it, and was stunned over that particular plot permutation. Robin clarified that they hadn't married each other, but that David, in his recurring role of Father Matchett, had married Paul's character, Casey Bowman, to Laura Wright's (she was Ally Rescott on Loving; she's currently GL's Cassie).
Paul and David laughed when I told them of my confusion over their fusion; Paul thought it wouldn't have been such a bad idea. "That would have been something for people to watch while they were eating their lunch! It would either have pulled the ratings up or yanked the show."


David recalled that on the day they taped the elaborate wedding, "I really had no clue as to what I was doing. Some woman who was a regular on the show but had a back-burner storyline came up to me and said, 'I think we should start a storyline together; it would be really interesting, me and a priest. I'll talk to someone about it.' And she walked away. A few minutes later, another actress with a back-burner storyline came over and said, 'My story's not interesting, I need to get with you. I'll go talk with someone--see you later.' And then a third one came up: 'I need to sleep with you...'" Though David can't remember the names of all his predators, he said all were blondes between 30 and 40. Paul and I had some fun speculating on their identities. What are your guesses?
By the way, though David and Paul were never hitched, I learned that they'd hooked up professionally when Paul starred in a play David produced for his About Face Theater Company.
David's company has since disbanded, but John Bolger's (Sykes, One Life to Live) Willow Cabin Theatre Company is in its 11th year.
