Star Speaks Out On Ouster

Heads continue to roll at GL, the latest cast casualty being David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund), as outlined last week. But the actor isn't bitter.
"I feel incredibly honored being part of six-plus years of the history of the show," say Macdonald diplomatically. "I have accomplished the unthinkable, which is being a bad guy not connected to any core family. Somehow, I lasted so long. I started off as a three-month recurring role to establish the character of Richard. Well, Richard went the way of God, and they didn't keep me for just three years, they kept me for six. That's a great thing."
Macdonald admits to only one regret about his GL exit. "I really wanted to make it to episode 15,000," he sighs. "I'm sorry that didn't work out. They have a little over 200 more episodes, and I would have made that. If they have a 15000-episode party, and if the show is still around, I hope I can go. That would be fun."
Macdonald pooh-poohs the rumor that Laura Wright's defection to General Hospital played a part in his dismissal.
"I don't think her decision to leave has anything to do with my leaving the show," he asserts. "The most important thing for me is that the fans keep watching the show, because I'll find another job at some point. I am not as important as 68 years on the air."
He also has a message for those fans. "Thanks for investing so much in this character," he smiles. "He's not the kind of person that people go, 'Wow, he's just like me!' I'd like to thank you for buying into it and going along for the ride with me. It's been a lot of fun."
Macdonald tapes his last episode on October 6, so look for the Edmund story to reach it's conclusion during November sweeps.
"Edmund will get his comeuppance," promises head writer David Kreizman.
