10/02/07 - Comings and Goings

David Andrew MacDonald (Edmund Winslow): As previously reported, MacDonald returns to Springfield for a four week stint beginning on October 24. "I do know we are in San Cristobel for a bit," he previews. "I'll go back to the good traditional lurking around corners and plotting people's demise!" MacDonald was last seen on-screen in 2005.

08/28/07 - Comings and Goings

David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund Winslow): The dastardly San Cristobel prince, who was sent to prison in 2005, is also returning. His first air date and the length of his stay have not been released.

12/13/05 - Soap Opera Digest 30 Years

Best Memories - Robert Newman
When asked what his favorite recent memory was, he turned to former co-star David Andrew Macdonald (ex-Edmund) and said, "Filming those last scenes with David."

11/08/05 - Missed Opportunity

David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund) has few regrets about his run on GL, but he does wish one scene went a little differently with co-star Crystal Chappell (Olivia). "We started on the show the same day and there was one scene, we were back on San Cristobel--which I think has fallen into the ocean--and it was suggested that she and I had been an item, but I stepped aside so she could become Richard's bride. So, there was this tension between us. As we're doing this scene, it was clearly written that way, but up in the booth, they kept going, 'Stop that, stop that!' They rewrote the entire scene."

09/30/05 - The Water Cooler - Reporting by Dorothy Walsh
I've been covering GUIDING LIGHT for barely four months, so while phone interviews are becoming a breeze, I still had an attack of nerves before a recent set visit, mixed by excitement over seeing my first scene taped. The show's publicist led me to the stage, where David Andrew MacDonald (Edmund) was stretching out, preparing to tape a scene. He immediately came over, and again, I was struck by how down to earth and nice soap actors are (at least all the ones I've met so far). MacDonald is a hoot; I literally had to stifle my laughter when they started shooting. I'm going to miss seeing him in Springfield. Rob Bogue (Mallet) showed up a few minutes later, and joked with MacDonald about his heroic entrance to save Dinah (Gina Tognoni). MacDonald laughed about his moustache-twirling villain, saying he wanted to see Edmund tie a woman to train tracks before his time in Springfield was done. Bogue considered that and then quipped: "then the camera would pull back and you'd see Mallet was on the tracks." "In a dress," MacDonald added. It was a blast spending time with the two actors. In between filming, I interviewed both of them, and took pictures while they struck "hero and villain" poses. I could tell they really enjoyed working together, and I'm sure Bogue is going to miss MacDonald, as I will, too. My next set visit will have a noticeable void to it.

04/04/05 - Grand Tour with Laura Wright
The Beacon: "It's a fancy hotel. A lot of things start to happen in the Beacon lobby, but then they go somewhere else, like the bedroom (laughs). David (Andrew Macdonald) says that Edmund is carrying on an affair with one of the receptionists. So, in Cassie and Edmund's inner life, they are fighting over Edmund's affair. Also, if you really pay attention, the coffee bar always moves around."

03/22/05
Why is Edmund reverting to his dark side? David Andrew Macdonald says:
"It's always been there. Now that the world he has been building with Cassie is basically crashing around him, that scared, sinister side emerges as an act of self-protection."

03/08/05 - Who's Who

Who has the messiest dressing room?
Macdonald: "Michael O'Leary (Rick). Everyone knows that. It's appalling. (Former dressing roomate) Grant (Aleksander, ex-Phillip) was definitely the wife and the husband in that relationship."

Who ad-libs the most?
Macdonald: "Oh, God, it's probably me. But a lot of people do it. (Daniel) Cosgrove (Bill) does it, too."

Who's the best at remembering special occasions?
Macdonald: "Grant Aleksander. He was always great at that, which is funny for a guy."

Perkiest morning person?
Macdonald: "Probably me, which is annoying. I'm brain-dead, but I don't shut up."

Who's the most intellectual?
Macdonald: "I'll pass."
Gatschet: "David Macdonald. He can go on and on about politics and history. If you ever have a question or really want to get into a stimulating conversation, go to him."

07/06/04 - Tying the Knot
At a recent set visit, SOD was prepared to ask David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund) the typical roster of questions. ("What, you mean boxers or briefs?", he joked). Ever the iconoclast, Macdonald wanted to talk about politics instead. "Please, ask me a question on gay marriage," he begged. "That is much more interesting than soap opera."
His opinion? "I can't see any reason for gays not to get married, and our government has no place in religion. I've yet to hear anyone come up with a sound argument against it - and that includes the president."

06/08/04 - Roundup
Q: Have you ever had a dream about a co-star? What was it?
DAM: I remember when I was doing all the cave stuff with Beth (Chamberlin, Beth) and Grant (Aleksander, Phillip), I had some tunnel dream and I was trying to help Beth, then Beth morphed into my wife, and then into my mother. Then Grant's head was on top of Beth's body, which was extremely peculiar.

03/23/04 - Stephanie Gatschet Roundup
Q: What's the last scene you had to do over and over, and why?
SG: David Andrew Macdonald [Edmund] and I often have to do our scenes over because we can't stop laughing. Sometimes, it's over what we are saying, and sometimes it's just looking at each other. Somehow, that sparks a burst of laughter.

03/23/04 - Fan Campaign of the Week
Supporters of GUIDING LIGHT's David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund) are urging the show's new executive producer, Ellen Wheeler, to bring back Edmund. "I don't know where Edmund is, but the show needs him to be mixing it up with Cassie and the rest of Springfield," penned a fan. Wrote another, "We miss Edmund, and we think he deserves a better storyline."

09/16/03 - CBS Gossip
The 411: Laura Wright(Cassie) has a running joke with co-star David Andrew Macdonald(Edmund): "He knows things that nobody else knows or cares to know. That's our joke. He'll use some big word and I'll go 'Nobody talks like that!' Or he'll start talking about something that nobody will know about and I'm like, 'What does your wife say when you talk like this?' He's like, 'She always tells me to shut up!'"

2003 - Star Sight - Happy Birthday, Gemini!
(Astrologer Maria Shaw reads into David's astrological sign)

David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund, Guiding Light)
Born On: June 1, 1961
Birthplace: Washington, D.C.

Shaw Sees: Born under the sign of the twins, David has two distinctly different personalities. It's evident in his chart that he's able to see "both sides of the coin". He has good business sense, but needs to follow through on projects(he probably has to many irons in the fire!). David's witty, charming, and able to strike up a conversation with just about anyone. This Gemini loves to be "in love", but can be quite cautious about giving his heart away too soon. Look for a new role or storyline to come his way before the end of the year. This versitile actor loves a challenge and will be up to the part.
Macdonald Says: "I don't know how to argue with that! I always find myself quite acerbic and not charming, so that's quite nice. I do have a difficult time following through, but I never thought it was my Gemini side so much as my ADD. I have to honor my mother and say no, [I don't normally believe in this stuff]. It's not necessarily wrong, but I don't know. Not knowing, I have a hard time holding stock in it, although many things often pop up as very true, as in this case."

10/02/01 - Panel of Experts
Most Talkative: David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund)
"I have diarrhea of the mouth. I can go off on tangents."--David Andrew Macdonald

Biggest Practical Jokers: Michael O'Leary (Rick), Grant Aleksander (Phillip)
"They're a tag team. I heard about them early on, and thought I had to befriend them."--David Andrew Macdonald

Biggest Movie Buff: Justin Deas (Buzz)
"When you walk in at 7:30 in the morning, and you hear Justin watching some obscure movie from 1973, he has to be a movie buff.--David Andrew Macdonald

07/24/01 - Eavesdropping

Strong, Firm and Fully Packed
Thin may be in--especially in Hollywood--but not for GUIDING LIGHT's David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund), who recently opined that he prefers a woman with meat on her bones. It's refreshing to know that some men still appreciate a curvy shape.

03/14/00 - Roundup

Q: What life lesson have you learned from your character?
David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund, GL):
"I can open my mouth and magically find myself in the middle of a socio-political tirade before I've had the time to edit myself, shut myself up and realize I've really upset a number of people in the room. So I think one thing I wished I would have learned from Edmund was to shut up and think before I opened my mouth."

04/27/99 - Hot Off The Net
In a recent interview with Digest Online, ANOTHER WORLD Executive Producer Chris Goutman assured fans that the much-maligned Lumina story will soon end. "It's going to disappear in May," he promised. Will the story's climax reveal a connection between Lumina and Lucifer, as one viewer suggested? "There are no devils on P&G shows," laughed Goutman.
On a lighter note, actor David Macdonald (Jordan/David) will outlast his outlandish plot. "I think he's a great find," Goutman enthused. "Not to give too much away," smiled the exec, "but I think [fans] might see a little David/Cindy interaction very very, soon. David will remain on the canvas and he will continue to be a conflict for Cameron and Amanda."
Look for the mystery surrounding Anne's identity to clear up in the weeks to come, too. "[Jordan] Stark did not create her," shared Goutman. "This is a character who is her own person. We'll find out more about Anne--and the reasons for Anne becoming a part of Cass and his daughter, Charlie's life will become a more and more compelling matter."

04/13/99 - Obsession Confession

David Macdonald (Jordan/David)
"In my teens, I didn't have a good complexion, and I was very shy around women. I'd see a girl that I'd like and would ask my friends, 'How do I talk to her?' I'd sit there and obsess about my inability to be anything but shy around girls. That lasted until at least halfway through college. Eventually, I think I had enough women approaching me, [so I thought], 'Okay, maybe I'm not a beast.' I let my sense of humor come out and relaxed a bit."

01/26/99 - Roundup

Q: What's your biggest phobia?
David Macdonald (Jordan, AW):
"Lack of clarity. Trying to explain yourself as clearly as possible and having someone make assumptions about you that are not based on what you're saying. People, depending on who they are, will assume things based on their own prejudices, fears and anxieties. So my biggest phobia is the fear of not being understood."

01/05/99 - David on Jordan Stark (Another World)
Is Jordan Stark the devil?
David Macdonald replies:
"Satan wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley, but Jordan's not Satan. Demons don't look for love. It's gotten twisted in his mind maybe, in a Machiavellian sense, but Jordan is actually looking for love."
