GL's Macdonald Fired!

GL's Edmund has grown steadily darker in the last few months, prompting fans to wonder how he can possibly be redeemed. Well, he can't at this point, so the show is writing out portrayer David Andrew Macdonald.
"This is the nature of the business," the actor says optimistically. "You've got to let characters run their course...I think whatever serves the show best is the story to maintain." Despite everything, Macdonald doesn't harbor any ill feelings toward the sudser: "I wish the show all the luck in the world because it has 68 years of broadcast history. Right now they're having a tough time and losing some long-time people, like Jerry (verDorn, Ross)." It's losses like verDorn that cushion the blow of Macdonald's ouster. "I feel like I went out with the 'old guard,'" he notes.
As for what's next, "I'd love to do stage again," Macdonald says, "but it's a nighttime endeavor, and that's difficult on a personal life. I'd love to stay in New York. Some of the best gigs here are daytime, and I was very surprised how much I enjoyed it. If someone saw fit to hire me again, I'm sure I'd enjoy it there as much as GL."

Say Good-bye: After six years, David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund) exits GL.
