June 2004 - E-Mail Update - Good Advice
The first impression that GUIDING LIGHT’s David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund) gives to people is that of a very well-spoken, well-read, well-bred gentleman. Oddly enough, the actor says that he wasn’t exactly honor roll material during his school days. "I was a good student, but I wasn’t a great student," reveals the actor, who suffers from a reading disability. "Because of my dyslexia, it was difficult to be a great student all of the time."
In fact, it was his dyslexia that eventually placed Macdonald on the path to show business. The actor says that when he was in ninth grade, his music teacher gave him such raves after his performance in a school play that "I thought, ‘Wow, this is something I do well.’ Then I went into high school, and I was interested in pursuing opera. Or so I thought, because it seemed lofty enough for me," he chuckles. "But then I realized that I wasn’t nearly as dedicated to music as I needed to be!"
Thus, a college-bound Macdonald turned down an acceptance at a music conservatory in favor of The Colorado College, a liberal arts school. "To pursue… I don’t know what!" he laughs. "When I got there, I was doing music history and theory, and sort of found theater. I did a couple of plays and thought, ‘Wow, this is fascinating.’ I mean, I liked the attention, but I realized at that point that acting was actually sort of fascinating!"
And thus, a star was born! To find out exactly what it was that his junior high teacher said that changed Macdonald’s life, pick up the new CBS issue of Soaps In Depth.

05/04/04 - Star Talk
Q: What do you hide when guests come to your home?
DAM: "The fact that I don't want guests to come over? I don't know! I don't feel as if I hide anything. I always feel as if I'm like, 'Hi! Look at me! Oh, I didn't wear anything. I'm going to go get dressed.'"

04/06/04 - Soaps' Silliest Mysteries
How does your character pay the bills?
"It's daytime - he doesn't do anything!" chuckles David Andrew Macdonald. "Edmund's the ambassador from SC, which of course is a completely broke nation. Cassie's very wealthy, and I believe that she actually has him as a kept man. I'm Cassie's ho."

2003 Year End - Hot Plot

What storyline on your show reeled you in the most?
Beth Ehlers: "I like the Phillip/Olivia thing; it went over a long period. But a good runner-up is the Cassie/Edmund [romance]. David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund) is the hottest guy on the show, next to Ricky Paull Goldin."

12/30/03 - Spitting Image
Laura Wright (Cassie) says that one reason she loves working with David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund) is because he's so darn funny. The actress knew that long before their characters ever became romantically involved.
"I had to spit water in his face when Edmund locked Cassie in the tower," she recalls. "I didn't know if I should really do it, and David told me, 'You've got to go for it. Because there's wimping out and not doing it, and there's doing it but kind of looking stupid. But then there's totally going for it and being hysterical and brilliant.'"
So, with Macdonald's permission, Wright went all out.
"I just spit as hard as I could, and the look on his face was so funny, I had to turn away!" she laughs. "I could have, at any second, broken the scene. But the scene was so good, and I had already gotten him soaking wet, so we couldn't do it over again. It was hysterical. David makes me laugh all the time."
