With Honors
Each year, The Lab School in Washington, D.C., honors high-achieving dyslexics
at their annual awards gala. Last year's recipients were political strategist
James Carville, actress Kelly McGillis, Ford Motor Credit Company Chairman
and CEO Don Winkler and Chicago Tribune columnist Clarence Page, but this
year the ceremony hit closer to home for Guiding Light when David Andrew
Macdonald (Edmund) was recognized with the school's award for an outstanding
alumnus. "It was very nice to hear that I was being honored," admits Macdonald,
who attended the school as a young child. Although the actor hasn't been
involved with the school's program since his education, he is highly active
with the New York branch of the International Dyslexia Association. "I've
been doing some speaking events for them," he says. "I think through those
grapevines, what I've been doing got back to Sally Smith, who's been running
the school since it's beginning."
That's A Fact: Macdonald's family lineage can be traced back to Scotland's
royal family.
